June 2011 Digital Dogbowl

Attention Aspiring Rock Photographers!
We've received last minute notice on a potentially amazing opportunity for anyone who wants to throw their hat in the ring. The Grammy Award-winning Soundgarden are back together after a 13-year absence from the stage. The band is launching a 17 city summer tour and are inviting aspiring photographers to submit their best photograph of an event for the chance to join the band on one date of their 2011 summer tour. One photographer will be chosen in each market to capture the energy of the band and their fans. Here's the deal: the deadline to submit your entry is June 5. For more information on how to get in on this contest, go to this LINK
Photo of the Month Winner: Andrea Hillis

Our winner this month for the theme, Couples/Engagement, was Andrea Hillis. Andrea has been photographing professionally for the past six years. She is the owner/operator of Hillis Photography in Savannah, Georgia. In the past year, she teamed up with a colleague and now co-owns another studio.
As for the story behind her winning image, Andrea told us this. "Mikhail Thomas (slimhim on NoBS) wanted to surprise his wife for their anniversary with a couples session. Mikhail took his wife to Riverstreet in Savannah, where I just happened to meet them in passing, "wink-wink".
It was funny, because as I was approaching them, I saw her expression, that she recognized me...lol...because she started to point at me, at which time I started laughing and Mikhail said "surprise"! Yes! Mission accomplished. We spent the next couple of hours photographing Mikhail and his wife in our lovely city.
The next theme for the Photo of the Month contest is: EMOTION. Your deadline to submit is June 10, 2011 and can be any image you have posted on NoBS within the past four weeks. To get your entry submitted, simply PM SarahM with the link to your image and she will take care of the rest. Want to know what you could win?
The winner gets to prizes from one of the following sponsors: Mama Shan, Shamrock Albums, Andy Armstrong & designhouse, Craig Minielli, We Shoot Ya, Profitable Studio, Marilyn Sholin, Animoto, Silverlake Backdrops, and more.

New Boudoir Posing Guide Released

NoBS member Andy Armstrong has just released what may be the authoritative guide on boudoir posing. He had this to say about his guide, "My goal in writing this boudoir posing guide is to share my boudoir session process and help you better direct your clients and consistently create stunning boudoir images that sell."
How good is this guide? This is what Kevin Kubota had to say about it, "My friend Andy Armstrong just released this very helpful posing guide for boudoir photographers. It is tastefully done and full of great tips and examples. If you are new to this genre of photography or looking for some easy to implement ideas to fine tune the work you are already doing, this should be very helpful. I particularly liked the examples of how a simple change in camera position can dramatically affect how you flatter (or un-flatter) your subject."
The best part is that from now until June 6, 2011, you can pick up your very own copy for $39. Thereafter, the price goes back up to $49. For More Info
