Latest Honors For NoBS Co-Founder, James Hodgins

Well my prints finally arrived back from the WPPI (Wedding Portrait Photographers International) where I scored an Accolade Of Excellence on one of my wedding images and another image took 3rd place for Photojournalism category. This is the 3rd time that I have placed 3rd place with WPPI. Why the heck can’t I at least get second? Oh well, maybe next year. I also received Best In Category for my Dog Portrait and a “Judges Choice” award (for the same image) at the recent Professional Photographers Of Saskatchewan Convention (no, not Ontario, don’t ask). Next up is Nationals at the PPOC Convention in Banff this month. I will keep you posted on the results.
March Photo of the Month

Last month's theme for Photo of the Month was Weddings and the winner was Jah from Norway! Here is Jah's story behind the image and his story as well:
My interest for photgraphing started at the time when my first daughter was born, in 2005.
I bought my first DLSR, and started taking pictures of her. I spent alot of time outdoor taking strolls with the baby sleeping in her stroller. I always brought my camera along, and got a lot of practice in taking photos of nature as well.
The interest in taking pictures increased, and as time went by I bought myself the equipment to take "studio-pictures". I got alot of positive feedback on my pictures, and more and more people have contacted me for different shoots. Mainly I do portraits, pregnancy, newborns and children. From time to time I also take wedding pictures.
Phographing is still just a hobby. My daily job is beeing an IT-consultant. Maybe some day I can make a living of doing what I love - taking Pictures.
The picture was taken when I was the photographer at a friend's wedding. It was taken at a subwaystation in Oslo. I had planned for a shoot in the subway-area, and when checking the timetables for the trains, I found out that there was one coming in just two minutes. So I had to think fast and come up with a good pose "together" with the incoming train. I think I managed to capture the moment in a good way. The movement of the train, the wail "blowing in the wind", and the passion between the bride and the groom.
The image was shot at ISO-1000 F3.2 1/60sec fill flash with Lightsphere, Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 24-70mm L @ 24mm.

When you think about the big players in the Senior Photography niche, there is no doubt that Steve and Shelley Harrington fall within that list. Steve and Shelley define the work ethic, art and enthusiasm that drives a successful studio. They work out of a small town, in a crap economy and are rockin' it! Here's an update on how things are going with their business.

Here's a can't miss interview with Tyson Zahner, a senior portrait photographer, who has experienced a tremendous amount of success in his Senior Photography business.
